JD Gordon got my attention with great melodies, great grooves, and most of all,
great lyrics. I am now a DAVE GORDON FAN!!! I have really enjoyed playing on
Dave's CDs and am looking forward to the next one.
KEEP IT UP DAVE, the world is ready for your music!
On My Way Album review by Richard Binney, Fredericton New Brunswick, 2007
The new album On My Way is JDs third album in as many years. “On My Way” is an
electrified version of a traditional bluegrass band with more movement in the
rhythm section. Combine this with JDs baritone vocal style and you have a real
winner.
Recorded in Nashville at Al Jolson Jr's Masterlink Studios, this album has the
right stuff. It is traditional in style, but has a crisp modern sound, not
unlike The Dixie Chicks.
JD’s lyrics are a catchy as ever…as in Tired of Doing opening
line; If life was a horse race I’d be happy indeed, cause I’m so far behind I’d
be back in the lead!”
JD Gordon’s songs are inspired by real life experiences, and truly exemplify
pain, love and happiness. The Ballad of Tommy Prince is the
only known song about this great Native Canadian hero, and it tells the heroic
story well.
The K&P Trailwas done with a fast moving bluegrass feel.
It is also another piece of Canadian history, telling the story of the now
defunct railroad, The Kingston Pembroke Railroad.
But the one that will really catch you off guard is the tune “Grandpa Was A
Good Ole Sole ”. There isn’t a third generation Canadian alive who
can’t relate to elements of this song.
JD Gordon has a refreshing approach; great lyrics, catchy melodies and first
class production quality definitely warrant a listen, you won’t be
disappointed.
